The first thing you need is an endocrinologist to help you through this. The cardiologist might think it’s a simple fix, but it’s not. I can’t say for a certainty whether the pulmonary hypertension will resolve once your thyroid hormone levels are stabilized, but I can say it’s not going to happen in 30 days ~ neither hormone levels correcting, nor cardiac symptoms resolving as a result. It does sound like you’ve been suffering with this for a while (unfortunately, your story is not a rare one, in that many Graves’ patients suffer a long time before someone finally does a cheap, easy thyroid hormone test and finds the truth), and if so, then it will take your body a while to heal as well. Things happen rather slowly with thyroid conditions, in terms of coming on, and also in terms of correcting, and you definitely need someone who is more informed about the intricacies of your condition, its treatment, and your recovery.

As far as nutrition, the only thing you should absolutely avoid while you are hyperthyroid is seaweed. Some doctors recommend low-iodine diets for various reasons, but the only food that really has enough iodine to be damaging is seaweed (kelp).

Other than that, just eat smart ~ low fat, high fiber, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, minimize empty calories. That’s the best way to have a good foundation inside your body to promote healing.

    Hello,

I was diagnosed 7 days ago and am still taking it all in. I have been having symptoms for 18 months but somehow my thyroid had been overlooked until now. I was referred to a cardiologist 6 months ago for the heart symptoms, who has done every heart test known to man (in my opinion) and I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension due to elevated pulmonary pressure. So, I was referred to a pulmonologist for treatment, who was actually the one who ordered the labwork to rule out Hypothyroidism, because I had actually been gaining weight. I have severe muscle loss, and was once very lean and active, exercising daily until I had to quit due to fatigue and intolerance.

Anyway, my TSH was undectable and my free t4 was high. I am still waiting the results for Graves, although thyroid scan was positive for hyperthyroidism. He put me on PTU 100 mg 3 times daily and said to redraw lab in 30 days. I asked about a referral to an endocrinologist, but was told it wasn’t necessary, that I just needed to get it under control so I could be treated for the Pulmonary Hypertension.

I know I came across something in my internet searches that the PH can resolve itself with correction of the hyperthyroidism. Does any one know more about this? My pulmonologist says it will not. I appreciate any information. I have found this site one of the best to research for information!

Also I need help and information on nutrition for hyperthyroidism, and what foods to avoid, if any. also what foods are healing. Thanks
