Hi! I was just wondring if anyone knows if it is common to
be anemic while having graves disease? Recently I had work
done (blood) and it showed anemia! One more thing to tckle.
Any info on this would be appreciated and I guessss I
should be triple dosing on those foods rich in iron??

    Sincerely,

    Denise

I’ll have to go through my materials and see if I can find the reference I saw to the topic of anemia. I vaguely remember reading that it could be associated with the hyperthyroid state, not necessarily Graves (i.e. if you are hyperthyroid, no matter what the cause, that this could occur.) Anyway, I’ll go look and see if I can find it.

    Denise,
There are several types of anemia. Do you have the “iron-poor-blood” type or the vitamin B6 deficiency type? If it’s the latter, it’s believed to be from lack of intrinsic factor and that’s believed to be common in people with Graves’. I don’t know how common the other type of anemia is for people with GD.
