Hi Finally got all my labs for the last 17 month together. Here goes. January 2013=TSH 0.296 . March 2013=TSH 1.35 .October 2013=TSH 1.01 . January 2014=TSH 1.43 +T4=12.8 .the dr only did a T4 test this last time.I felt so bad mentally,i couldnt even explain what was the matter to the dr.January 2014 I had written some disjointed symptoms on a piece of paper and i started to cry because i couldnt tell him what was going on.He ended up taking the paper out of my Hand a little impatiently and said something about i should have said something when i made the appt so he could have scheduled more time.Well the way i was acting must have alarmed him enough to sent me for a head catscan.i have had my Levothyroxine lowered twice since jan 2013.Or should i switch to Synthroid?Isnt it kind of weird that my TSH was at 1.43 well within range of normal and i was going of my rocker?

Hi again Conniepye, I’m on the methimazole side of the fence but can relate very much. My mental symptoms seem way more than they should be given that my labs really are good. Maybe it’s all connected to the hurting hair. I also have disjointed speech unless I really focus, and people get impatient even angry which stresses me further. I don’t even try to wing it at the doctor anymore. I type out every issue and question in advance, print it and hand it to them. Helps a lot.

Unless you regularly get your FT4 and FT3 tested with your TSH you won’t really know if there’s a need for T3 supplementation. I have read many times about people doing better on Synthroid instead of levo, if I ever have a TT I’m going synthroid for sure. Wishing you luck!

hey raspberry, i too have trouble explaining things.cant remember jokes ect ect. and im so freaking sensitive.you look at me wrong and i have to work at not crying on a bad day.i have issues with noise,i cant shut it out so i cant concentrate.and you know that person with that irritating voice i cant shut them out, they boom in my head, like somebody has turned up the volume.i dont drive either because of my anxiety.ive had 4 extremely stressful years with medical issues in the family,so maybe thats whats making me feel bad.
maybe we are the forerunners for the discovery of a new symptom of GD(follicle hangover) lol

Hello – The T4 number would be more illuminating if you had a reference range from the lab that you go to. Are you too low? Or right in range?

For patients who are normal and stable after RAI or TT, testing TSH alone is fine…but for those who have been fairly recently treated and who aren’t feeling well, it certainly makes sense to take a look at T3/T4 on a consistent basis.

The T3/T4 question is a decision that you and your doctor will need to make. We have some regular posters here who feel that combination therapy was helpful in improving quality of life, while others found that it brought back a return of their hypER symptoms.

Bottom line, you want a doctor who is going to take your symptoms seriously and help you get your quality of life back. If you are interested in a second opinion, the “Looking for a Doctor?” thread in the announcements section of the forum would be a good place to get started.

Conniepye, much sympathies – I experience Graves very similarly. To me the anxiety can’t take another thing feeling tends to go with being a little on the hyper side. They hypo side also feels like I can’t take another thing either, but in kind of a more slug-like way. Sorry to hear about your four hard years, stress and stabilizing don’t seem to go together. I hope your doc can help you feel better soon.
