I have suffered with Graves’ disease for 5 years and have ocular and pretibial myxedema. I am currently battling a bad case of bronchitis. When I went to see my internist (or her PA to be exact) I asked about the implications of my Graves when battling infections. I was told to go to WebMD and maybe I could get an answer. That was a great reminder that I can’t count on my healthcare providers to understand my disease. I want to find the best resources for these questions and would appreciate any advice anyone could give me. Good health to all.

    Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately, there is much that doctors still don’t understand about Graves’ and its complications.

We have some good general resources in the announcements section of this forum. Try the “Treatment Options” and “Helpful Links” threads in particular.

For someone who is taking anti-thyroid drugs (methimazole, PTU, Tapazole), lowered white blood cell count can be a concern. But I’m not familiar with Graves’ itself causing issues like bronchitis. Hopefully, others will chime in here if they have had similar experiences…this could be an interesting area for further research!

    Take care!
