I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with Grave’s, had the radiation treatment and now take Synthroid daily. All worked out fairly well- I’ve been stabilized for about 2 years. My problem- the EYE thing! I’ve talked to my endo, my GP and my opthamologist, and no one seems to think it’s that big of a deal. Although all other symptoms have disappeared and physically I feel great, I still have the bulging eyes and a LOT of undereye/eyelid puffiness. I’m extemely self-conscious about my eyes, so much so that I gave up contacts when I first got Grave’s and have never gone back. Although the Grave’s didn’t appear to affect my vision, the physical appearance of my eyes is awful. I’m 36 but my eyes look like a 50 year olds. So much so that I am considering plastic surgery, but I wanted to get all the info I could on other Grave’s folks and how they have handled the eye thing. I’ve read on this site about “orbital decompression” what is it? Anyone out there had surgery to correct the bulging eyes? Any info would be gratefully appreciated!
