    Hi all,

I was curious if anyone shared my experience:

At the same time I was diagnosed with Graves two years ago, I also developed a breast lump. I had it removed and it was benign, but I never received a real explanation about what it was. My theory was that it was connected to GD. A year ago, I went into remission until two months ago, when I became hyper again. And guess what? A breast lump has appeared in exactly the same place!

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

    Thanks,
    Rachel

Not exactly the same thing, but I did have a lump that also included a nasty brownish discharge. I had a mamogram done, and it showed calcium build-up basically with a possible clogged milk duct. (I was still nursing my son when I was diagnosed with GD in November, 1998.) I still haven’t received a real satisfactory answer as to the cause, either.

    Hi,
Yes, I had a lumpectomy on my left breast done in 1994 but my maternal aunt had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a mastectomy. Naturally, it scared me to death. By the way, she is considered cured since it has been 6 years now. I also have one in my right breast that I have had for about 4 years and they are just watching it.

    Hope this helps.

Fibrous Breast Tissue, great title for a novel I could write. All kidding aside, I’ve sat with the “your mammo looks suspicious…let’s do an ultrasound”. I’ve quit giving “it” too much energy. Seems “fibrous tissues” do have some link, of some sort, to the thyroid. Just treat yourself gently; do the monthly exams, stay away from coffee/choc., you know the drill.

I also had a large fibrous cyst removed from my uterus, along with the uterus. I’ve had cysts on my fingers (on the bone), too. Didn’t do anything surgical, due to nerve involvement. The finger cysts silently went “back” to wherever they came from. Graves’ presents many little phenomena…so, I’d say there is a connection, somewhere. My Mom & all the other maternal family constantly has problems, too. We can only do so much about them. So! The most positive thing I can add is that I’ve been told repeatedly that if they hurt….it’s probably “no problem”, but given the old family history, go through the mammo’s, check it out! You relieve your mind. Take care!
