    I have never heard of this as a potential option for controlling TED symptoms ~ I would bring it up with your ophthalmologist and endocrinologist to see what they think. Some supplements can be harmful or can affect other things you’re taking, so always best to check with the docs and/or pharmacists before deciding to do something daily.

    I’m hearing alot of buzz about people with mild TED problems benefiting from eating a handful of Brazil Nuts daily for 3 weeks because they contain Selenium. I’ve always been weary of taking the suppliment because I try to leave my thyroid levels to my Endo but I feel much more comfortable considering this option.

    Has anyone tried this and found improvement? Or heard anything?

    I agree on the previous statement in double checking to make sure that it’s okay but here’s the article that I read:

    (I hope that’s not a no no on this board. If so I apologize ahead of time). There are several other likely more reputable websites out there that talk about Selenium helping too. I was just bringing the nuts up because I won’t take the suppliment in fear that it’ll mess my thyroid up. Oddly enough eating a handful of nuts daily doesn’t bother me as much…… I know… I know… suppliment is suppliment. But it makes me feel better not popping another pill and knowning that someone out there just loves Brazil Nuts so they eat them daily :lol:

    Hello – There was a study in Italy that showed that selenium supplements (100 micrograms twice a day) might have a positive impact on mile TED. However, the study was done in an area known to be selenium-deficient, so more research will be needed to determine whether this might be helpful to other patients. To my knowledge, there haven’t been any studies on how foods that are high in selenium might impact TED.

    On a side note, taking larger than recommended doses of any supplement is *not* a good idea! Certain vitamins/minerals that offer a benefit at smaller doses can be dangerous if taken in too large of a dose.
