Is it common to have elevated blood pressure with this. My pressure seems a bit high this evening – it was normal before,,, and I am wondering
thanksYes, I think many people have changes in their blood pressure that normalize when thyroid levels do. Hyperthyroidism changes the way the heart beats and that can affect blood pressure as well. Are you taking beta blockers?
Hi again
I am not on any meds at this time. 2 weeks ago my pressure was normal. Last night it was 158/98. I am in shock and going to try to go to the clinic this morning. I can not believe how fast this is happening. Will they be able to resolve this through beta blockers?
ThanksYes high blood pressure is common – however what is your normal pressure? That would seem high and it would be best to get it checked out.

My normal is around 117/80…….. how fast do beta blockers work… this is really frightening. I was in such good health several months ago and now this!
Did anyone else experience such a rapid change?me again!
Yeah I have never had any probs with my BP until I was first daignosed and then post partum. All the way through pregnancies etc.. my BP was perfect! My BP did shoot up for a while but started to come back down with the anti-thyroid meds. Do you have a practice nurse? Maybe they could check it again for you? Also where you anxious at the time? You know the "white coat" syndrome?
For your sake I would ask for it to be checked again – no use in worrying.
Take care and feet up!

Hi All,
I am also having elevated Blood Pressure levels. I never had elevated BP in the past..I occasionally used to have a High BP Spell when I had to stay awake late due to office work. I was also a Software Engineer and hence I had to travel a lot within India..But After that I started doing excercise, when I came to US and I hadnt had any problems with my BP..
Now when I got this Graves Disease, the BP level seems to be elevated..My T4 has gone down to 0.81 after being on Tapazole. At this stage I expected the BP to come to normal.. Could anyone suggest of ways to reduce the BP at this stage ? ThanksDear Aravindh,
I wrote another post to you on this subject, but it’s probably going to take time for you. You’ve been hyperthyroid for months and you will need time to heal from the effects of that. Read the response under the topic "Graves’ Disease in Males". Dianne
Just thought I should let you know I went to the doctor today. He has given me APO-ATENOL 50 MG. I am going in for blood work tomorrow, since the doctor thinks now my thyroid may be kicking in. I have had normal levels up to now. So, I guess this disease is really beginning for me.
I have been very upset all day.
It is very hard being very healthy and suddenly becoming unhealthy. I think my husband is in denial, since he is very athletic and always expects me to keep up… I always expect myself to keep up. So this is so hard on so many levels… -
