Ok, I am a total believer in traditional western medicine. I am on PTU and following my doctor’s advice. Having said that, I have a friend who is a pharmacist who just told me that she has a friend who also has Graves’ and did NOT get treatment with the traditional ATDs, RAI, or thyroidectomy. Instead, she did bee sting/venom therapy…she subsequently had a normal pregnancy and has a healthy newborn. I couldn’t believe it! I have NEVER heard of such a thing! I was sceptical. This isn’t a friend of a friend of a friend….this was HER friend, someone she knows VERY well. So, I asked if her friend monitored her thyroid levels regularly during pregnancy and saw “normal” (not just alternative/homeopathic” doctors during her pregnancy….and she did. So, she hadn’t totally gone off the deep end and wasn’t being completely dangerous/irresponsible with her pregnancy…i guess. I did ask if her friend’s eye bulging changed at all…she said maybe slightly better, but still noticeably bulging. that’s all I know about this person….I know there are more details to know about. but this is what i’ve got.

I would not consider ever doing just alternative/homeopathic treatment for my Graves’. I plan to stay on PTU while TTC……BUT, i just want to know out there, if any of you have personal experience and know someone directly who has tried bee sting / bee venom therapy. I’d like to know about both failed cases and success stories, if there are any out there.

I did a search on this forum and haven’t seen any posts about it.
i did a quick google search and found this (totally NOT reputable, but did find some info)

Let me say again, I DO NOT ADVISE this homeopathic treatment. I don’t want to debate about what is better…alternative/homeopathic vs traditional western medicine. I just want to know if anyone else has stories to share about this bee sting / big venom therapy. That’s all.

    Thanks!!!

Hi all – In accordance with this forum’s policy on links, I removed the above information.

The GDATF is a public 501(c)(3) charitable organization – and we have a Board of Directors (whose names you can find on our web site) who provide guidance on the type of content we can provide here. Their wishes are that our public forum as well as our local support groups *only* share information that comes from “evidence-based medicine”. Therefore, links posted on this forum need to come from well-established, peer-reviewed medical journals and from credible medical associations.

For those who are interested, there are other forums out there that have a much more lenient policy on the types of therapies discussed — but of course, the down side is that you might not be getting credible information there.

Just from a practical standpoint, I have a family member with a severe bee sting allergy. To me, it seems like this therapy has a much higher probability of killing you than of curing your hyperthyroidism.

ok. very fair. i understand. there haven’t been any responses so, i would agree, this therapy really isn’t valid whatsoever….but interesting. perhaps she had a very special situation or maybe she didn’t even have graves’. i’ll get more info later when things have stabalized for her….she just had a baby.
