Hi guys
Went for my appointment with my endo at Cleveland Clinic.
Thyroid is okay according to him. Tsh is normal ft4-ft3 yadda, yadda.
He says he is sure my symptoms of
hot flashes
horrendous night sweats
lack of sleep
general depression and disgust because of how rotten I feelare coming from “somewhere else.” My Fsh is 147.2
He does not think it’s carcinoid syndrome (tumor that secretes hormones) because I;ve had that test 2 times and nada.
He is now referring me to Deepak Chopra. if you aren’t familiar, he is the friend of the late Michael Jackson. deals in holistic medicine. I have never believed in this stuff, but I have to go back to cleveland april 15 to meet with him and his staff can you believe this?
Karen:o
Wow. YOu are INTERESTING! But I sorry you feel so crappy. Hope something gets figured out soon
ShirleyShirley, I think this is nuts.
Hi Karen, I have felt like you do now. One of the things that was the MOST terrible, was the poor sleeping, and sleep deprivation, which impacts our whole day. It is terrible. I am not suggesting you do what I did, but this IS what I did. I felt I could not go on, unless I got a full night of sleep, or at least slept fairly well some of the night. I did get some sleep medications, they were a life saver for me, cause I saved them for “special occasions” and took them sparingly. I found that everything about my world, especially being discouraged and depressed, was worse when I spent sequential sleepless nights. It did help me.
I am not much in the holistic stuff, but there probably is some good science out there that gives it a place in the treatment world, and worth a go. Why not? I am so so sorry you feel as you do. Many people on this board will understand, and have hated it as much as you do.
Nobody understand what is like to be NORMAL, and how wonderful it is, until we aren’t!
ShirleyHi Shirley, I’ve tried Ambian, Lunesta, and all that garbage Nothing works for more than 3 hours. I might as well just take a Klonopin, not much difference
He mentioned that they would start me on Melatonin / not sure how to spell itl. he thinks that could help my sleep.
Hi,
I’m not in your situation, so I may be of no help. And, this might sound overly simplistic. But, you know what helped my sleep issues a lot (even when I was hyperthyroid and sleeping 2-3 hours a night). Massage. My husband would give me a massage and it helped. I’ve recently started going to Massage Envy (certified massage therapist) and it really has helped me so much. I can’t believe how much tension, stress I had in my body and it was effecting my sleep, mood, and energy. The nice thing about Massage Envy is that they are nation wide and a wellness center. So, if you have a flex spending account (medical), you can use that money for your massages. I know how crappy insomnia is- we’ve all been there with this disease. I don’t know if my recommendation will help you, but I know massage can’t hurt. Maybe give it a shot. I’ve also tried acupuncture, but I like the massage better.
Hi Karen – I certainly recognize the name Deepak Chopra, but really don’t know anything about his approach.
There are some practitioners who focus on complementary/alternative therapies that are fully based on scientific studies. I don’t know if this is the approach he uses, but you can always check out any suggested options with the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Their mission is to look at alternative and complementary therapies from a science-based perspective.:

One off-the-wall thought for you might be to see if you can find a doctor to do a “sleep study”. Clearly, this issue is impacting your ability to get a good night’s rest. Perhaps if a doc had a chance to observe exactly what is going on, he/she might be more motivated to help you get some relief!
Take care!
