If it were me I would try an internal medicine doctor. They seem pretty good at looking for the zebra’s so I have been told. My aunt has Diabetes, and hypothyroid, but never could loss weight, they checked her for all kinds of things, found the problem(I have no idea what it was)and now she is several hundred pounds lighter, all thanks to this type of doc. All the other docs chalked it up to the diseases, and her over eating(which wasn’t the case). Anyway good luck,

    Dear Joy,

You will need a thyroidologist as well as Internal Medicine. You are going on a funky-body zebra safari!

Depending on where you live, you will find plenty of good doctors, or nary a doctor anywhere. If you could go somewhere like Mayo Clinic, or Cleveland Clinic (there are others) you could get everything checked at once, and have the added advantage of several doctors who actually collaborate with each other, and WITH YOU!

I have been in remission from Graves since January 09. I tested positive for Graves antibodies and had all the symptoms and thyroid levels to verify. My course was very short (less than 7 months from symptom onset to remission) which puzzled the endocrinologist I saw. I am now experiencing some similar symptoms to the Graves, but my TSH, T3, T4 were all normal. My thyroid is tender and slightly enlarged, and I am scheduled for ultrasound in July. However, in addition to the thyroid tenderness, I have intermittent fevers, lethargy, muscle weakness and now, petechiae. My white blood cell count has been very low, but other bloodwork normal. My regular doctor is reluctant to go after autoimmune causes for these symptoms because autoimmune are less likely than putting it off to a virus. (A virus which no one I live or work with has caught.) However, I also suffered several miscarriages, have had vitilago for many years (which is getting worse), was grey haired at 27, and have Reynauds phenomenon in my index fingers. From my research these are all autoimmune, and one autoimmune is very likely to mean others are possible. So, I definitely had Graves antibodies last summer. Anybody know where to point me to find a doctor willing to look for the zebras?? Because I am tired of being made to feel like a hypochondriac when I am trying to find some one to help me feel better. Yes, my Graves appears to still be in remission, but I was hoping someone here could point me to some other answers for autoimmune problems.
