Hey Everyone,
Quick question. At night when I lay down to sleep, my thyroid feels "thick" and I can feel my heartbeat there..or a thumping feeling..At times it makes me feel like my heart "flutters", or makes me gasp for a quick air. But, once I finally fall asleep..I’m totally fine. Don’t wake up at all and don’t even notice it in the morning.
Anyone else know what I’m talking about??
*current taking 200mg of PTU my T4 is normal..tsh WAS 0.01 last Weds.*
Could be palpatations. I know that I can’t lie flat on front or back as feel as though tyroid / throat is going to explode and feel a throbbing there – is that similar?

Last night was a rough night to "fall asleep". Seems like once I’m asleep, I’m fine. But last night was frustrating b/c I could feel my thyroid like shake or jump or something like that. It almost causes me to jump out of my bed or try to catch my breath. It’s so annoying…very frustrating part of Graves that drives me crazy:)
You might need to take a beta blocker.Talk to your DR.
The "throbbing" is actually your heatbeat. Your large veins run right up your neck, and they will "vibrate". If you have a goitre, any swelling in your neck, you will "feel" it. There is only so much room in your neck, and it was quite nicely filled before all this started. If you are sleeping fine, tell your doctor about it on your next visit. If you are NOT sleeping, call your doctor, and at least talk to the nurse. Helpful information will include what your pulse rate is, whether you are flat on your back or have the head of your bed elevated, if you are choking or having difficulty swallowing, and if there is pain (and how severe it is) involved. The more objective information you can give them, the better they can evaluate what may be going on.
