Testa,
I have this problem when my thyroid levels are high. You might want to get your levels checked! I get out of breath just walking up a slight hill or one flight of steps.
i got short of breath, and my heart was beating fast, and my arm muscles got weak and seemed heavy, so i had my TSH level checked, and it was low, so the doctor decreased my meds.i was taking 2 mil of synthroid and he decreased it to 1.75 mil. i will have it checked again in 4 weeks to see if it’s the right dose. i’ve been hypoactive now for 18 years. first, i was hyper, but was treated with radioactive iodine and that made me underactive. now, i’m on meds for life.
I have been having shortness of breath for quite awhile, I am on TopralXL 75mg ,my endo said that this is a symptom of GD, patient can’t seem to get enough air, well I have my good days and bad, at times I really notice I am having trouble is when I am exerting myself, Yesterday I had to sit down 3 times before I could finish mopping my floor just to catch my breath. Does anyone else have this problem?? Thanks Testa
Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I’ll tell you what has helped me. Right now, I’m on the same level of medicine that you are, but exercise has helped tremendously! I hate to exercise, but my Mom and I walk 2 1/2 miles every day. We have been doing this for several months and I can tell a big difference in all areas of the thyroid and graves disease. I just feel better. Not to say that I feel great, you know that’s not true, but I am having more good days then bad since I started walking everyday. I feel healthier! I’m glad to have my Mom to walk with me. If I had to do it alone, I wouldn’t do it at all. Maybe you can find someone to exercise with you. I wish you the best!
hi testa
i hope your feeling better, please call your doctor and have this checked out hopefully it is nothing serious, not to scare you, but i had been getting short of breath and figured it would go away. months later in feburary i had a heart attack at 43 years old, and i have a 12 year old son. talk about scarey, i wish i had of called the doctor and had my shortness of breath checked out.
it may be nothing serious, but still why take any chances, better off getting it checked out from your doctor.
you take care and let us know when you see your doctor.

My 7 year old has been off her meds for 3 weeks now. I think she’s going “hypo”. She told me last night that her “belly hurts” (constipated, I think) and that she can “feel her heart beating” (increased heartrate?) and that she’s “breathing hard” …that sounds like what you described. Interesting. We go to her endo on Monday, I’ll bring this up then. Thanks.
Hi Testa,
Yes, I have been going threw espisodes of shortness of breath
off & on. Seems like the last three weeks have been the worst! I don’t
know what is causing this, but it really scares me …I’m also on Toprol XL 50 mg. Mine just comes at any time, I could be just relaxing
and boom! The shortness of breath happens…my doc dosen’t seem to
have an answer either! I’d also have a slight pressure feeling on my
chest too…at times I thought it could be the humidity outside, so
I would run in the house for cooler air to breath. I wish we had answers
to this question…anybody else going threw this? Any input would greatly be appreciated!! Pray for me as I will for you…Susan Lyn
