    Hey everyone,

I watched a presentation on the gdatf Facebook page by Ophthalmologist Dr. Kimberly Cockerham.
She recommends Nasonex instead of Prednisone and Lotemax eye drops instead of the regular off the shelf stuff.

Nasonex is supposed to be much safer with way less side effects..one of them being possible catorax formation.
Lotemax ointment for night use, is said to stimulate the mybomium (I could be spelling that wrong) glands, is oil based with no preservatives AND she also recommends Selenium (herbal supplement).

Can anyone speak to this? I plan to talk to my doc about these.

Hello – Hopefully, you will get some other responses here.

There was a small study in Italy that showed that selenium supplements (100 micrograms twice a day) might have a positive impact on mild TED. However, the study was done in an area known to be selenium-deficient, so more research will be needed to determine whether this might be helpful to other patients.

I have personally tried Selenium, but did not see much of a change. However, I was already 3 years into Graves’ at the time, so that might have had an impact.

    Take care!

Thanks Kimberly! I’m hoping people chime about the Lotomax and Nasonex…interested to hear if others have been prescribed those instead of prednisone.
