    Hi. I am sorry that you are having that trouble. That was not my experience. I had started an antidepressant about six years ago (before I knew I was hyperthyroid) and the being hyper did not effect the effectiveness on the antidepressant (called “Effexor”) on my depression. I don’t know if or which you have tried so far, but maybe try Effexor if you have not tried it yet. Good luck – I am sure you will find one that works for you too. leslie

    If you have not seen a psychiatrist, you might try that approach. We have a family member who suffers from depression, and our experience has been that psychiatrists understand these drug issues better than do most GPs.

    went to therapist yesterday, discovered i needed one more than i knew. has anyone had success from depression with use of anti depressant medication? i have read there can be a resistance to the medication when the thyroid is not controlled. does anyone know something on this? thanks, nsc.

    Yes I have had success with them but it took awhile to find the right one. The Dr. finally put me on Lexapro but I take about 5mg more than the recommended dossage max because it works for me. I tried other but developed an allergy reaction due to the high dose. It takes about 6 weeks to get the full effects to kick in so be patient. Good Luck!
