I am really busy right now. But, whoever was talking
about using an anti-histimine for the horrible
itching from Tapazole, please write me. I have
been having horrible palm and feet itching after
being on Tapazole for 3 1/2 weeks. I am going to
try the anti-histimine. I also called my endo’s
office. He is out of town, so I won’t know until
Monday, but they may take me off of Tapazole because
of this. I really don’t want to switch meds, is this
    itching going to get worse???

Can severe itching be a symtom of Graves? I have graves and at times
get a pretty bad itch all over my body. It comes and goes last time I had this was 3 months ago. Does this mean my levels would be off? Im due to see my endo in three weeks.

    Thanks

    Gia,

Severe itching was the symptom that finally helped to diagnose my
husband’s Graves Disease. He used to wake up in the middle of the night
scratching all over. It was driving him crazy. He had been to dermatologists and tried lots of creams but nothing helped. He was told he had dry skin. Even though his heart was racing, he had lost lots of weight, his hands shook, his eyes bulged, and he slept all the time, none of his doctors thought of Graves. Finally we mentioned the itching to a physician’s assistant and she said that he should have his thyroid checked. He’s been on PTU for over a year and all those symtpoms are gone, including the itching. The only remaining problem he has is his eyes, but that’s another story. I hope you find some relief soon.

    Hi Gia

Yes itching rashing is something I had too, I don’t know if Endo’s will say it is a common thing with Graves or not but it has been mentioned on the board maybe this past summer sometime. I remember my legs itching terribly bad. Just rest assured that this is something too that will pass.

    Blessings, Sally

Hmmmm. For years before diagnosis, I had extrememly itchy calves – so itchy that I had scabs and now scars on my legs.
