Hopeful,
Congratulations! I am really happy for you. I think you will do well. Being scared is normal so just meditate on the future and how it will be better. Your classes are set and now you will be able to go on with your life. I don’t think you’ll be allergic to this hormone. There are several manufacturers so if you do have a reaction you can change brands. I think that most people probably have a reaction to the fillers and others things in the medication that aren’t hormone.

Good luck and let us know how you are feeling in a few days. My GP told me that he’s had patients who felt so much better in just three days. They weren’t euthyroid of course but they were getting back to normal and it really did start to help.

Being hypo definitely gives you an explanation why you wanted to screammmmmmmmmmmmmm yesterday, right? You have reason to be scared, but focus on how healthy you’re going to be soon and how this is going to help you complete your next semester in school !! I know it took me almost a week, when the dr. increased my medication so it may take a little while for you to start feeling a little better, so be patient with your body. You’ll be HAPPY & BUBBLY before you know it…hang in there Krystal!! Just in case you’re interested, I told someone today that I was going to ask for new DNA…HA!! (think it’s a little too late for that though…ARGH!)

Even if your levels are tough to "dial in," you will put in the time to get them right, I know you will! And at least from this end (from zero, or less than zero!), you will no longer have fluctuations due to antibody activity, so things will be more stable in general. You’re well on the way ~ take heart! For now, it may take a couple of weeks before you feel the real effect of the dose your doctor has chosen ~ in between you may feel a little bit like a seesaw, but getting more and more level all the time. You’ll need to wait at least 3 or 4 weeks to test your levels again ~ typically they say 6 weeks between doses, but right now since you went SO hypo, the doctor may recommend tests a little closer together to make sure you don’t remain SO hypo for long.

And in the meantime ~ continue being good to yourself, you are still in battle with this, and your body is being taxed.

Thanks ski… i just picked up my synthroid and my dose is 75 mcg.. with a 85.3 tsh does this seem like a good start. Im not trying to have hyper symptoms or crazy od side effects.

It’s really hard to say ~ your doctor probably has the best perspective and history to decide the dose. Anything’s a start! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

Yeah Hopefull…..be thankful your RAI worked!!!!! My doctor seems to think I’m one of the "lucky ones" that it only killed off part of my thyroid. Guess I’ll see in 6 months if it worked!!!

But I really am so happy for you!!! At least the antibodies can’t attack your thyroid any longer!!!!! WHOOO HOOOO

So glad you have had this good news! Hang in there, things are getting better now!

I was just informed that I could start taking Synthroid (or generic) this past week too! He started me on 100 mcg’s.

I have family members that have been on this for years so it hasn’t made me too worried, I don’t like having to take it, but know I have to. My only concern is that I have 1 sister who has not done well on any of the generic forms of this, so I requested the brand name drug. My Endo was very good in addressing my concerns over this, so I may try the generic and see how I feel for the next refill. His preference is for the Synthroid only brand when a person has/had thyroid cancer. My sister’s issue was non cancerous goiter nodules that had necessitated removing most of her thyroid over 20 years ago, so her experience and knowledge of what works for her is different than my situation.

Here is my experience so far: I have been having the cold hands/feet & fatigue these past few weeks. Because I was going on Vacation the 28th and my endo appt. was the 22nd, I went to the lab the week before, so my Endo would have the results to make any changes before I went on vacation

They called in my synthroid prescription on Monday the 20th, I started taking it on Tues morning. I still had the fatigue and cold/hands and feet by Thurs, but since Friday I have started feeling more normal energy levels, and each day the cold/hands feet thing is getting better AND it looks like the scale is being a little kinder on my weight loss <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> I figured it would take almost a month before I felt any change? the Dr. told me it would be quicker than that, but subtle.

My Endo now wants me to go the week before appts to get the bloodwork done. Other good news: my BP was 112/75 and resting pulse 50. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> I am now off the beta blocker, and so far, no shaking.

Oh wow thats awesome Knitlit

I was started on 75mcg’s and was freaking out thinking omg wonder if thats too much and I have an overdose reaction. I am weird with taking pills. People on here helped put me at ease though. I am still anxious but Im assuming it will subside sooner than later. Take care and good luck and congrats on feeling better everyday I hope the scale lightens up for me to hahaha. i wanna go back down to 120ish This 145 is GOT TO GO. ttyl

Hi Hopeful23, I hope you are able to successfully get regulated on replacement after RAI and being soo HYPO. If it helps, I was in just about the same position you are in now, Sept. ’07. After RAI. they let me get to 77.5 TSH, I felt so weak, I was not functioning and couldn’t think straight, let alone walk straight, I could barely get out of bed. I called my DR. and he sent me to ER. when they got the lab results, and put in an order for replacement, the ER doctor told me to go home and go to bed and don’t get out until I get enough replacement in me over the next few days — he said "you are too sick to do anything". It took about 4 days of taking the replacement before I began to feel the EDGE coming off of the intense drowning weakness. Until I was on replacement for a week, I was still "wall-banging/wall-hugging" when walking to the bathroom or kitchen. Being on replacement gave me life back. Good luck with your journey, and remember it is replacing something every cell in your body desparately needs. You can actually die without it.

Oh wow. You were really weak. Thats weird because my TSH was higher than yours and i dont feel that bad. I do however have the wall banging wall hugging feeling in the morning. It wears off throughout the morning. Probably from the synthroid huh? Its only day three for me so im not sure when im supposed to feel safe or what. Im use to being hyperthyroid. I dont know this whole thing is scary to be honest. I just hope im not going to die. Im freaking out now:( should i go to the ER?

The way you feel right now is probably more likely due to the hypothyroidism, which the synthroid is correcting. Take it VERY easy, keep on taking that Synthroid ~ call your doctor if you’re overly concerned, but remember you were VERY VERY hypo, so this is going to take a while.
