    Hi Everyone,

I spoke of this in the anti- anxiety discussion, but I would like to know specifically if there is anyone who has ever taken this medicine. Whether for depression or pain. How did it effect you? Did you notice a change in mood, appetite, clarity? This stuff works great for pain but it had me in a complete fog; I had no appetite, I became frustrated and angry very easily.

Any other stories would help, because my doctor looked at me, as if I wasn’t suppose to have those types of reactions. I explained to her my sensitivity to pain medicine, but I have only met one other person who has taken this medicine.

I cannot give you any information from my own experience about Amitriptyline because I have never take Amitriptyline. Amitriptyline belongs to a group — tricylic antidepressants. Looking at the group as a whole the drugs do have side effects—not necessarily the ones you are complaining of. If you could get a hold of a Physicians’ Desk Reference (PDR) you could find out what side effects do occur with Amitriptyline. You can find the book in any library. The PDR is a source which your doctor should respect and would provide a good basis for a discussion.

    Thanks Ellen,

Do I get that online, or would I have to get that from the physician. I go to a free clinic, so my meds only come in a little plastic bag with handwritten labeling. Nothing like the information sheet that would come at Walmart or Walgreens.

    Bmama,
First here is a link to the Physicians "Desktop" Reference The book online is for medical personnel only so it’s the library to see if they have that book or look it up at the link I put here. It’s the same company but it’s for non medical personnel.

2nd, please tell the dr/nurse who are giving you these drugs or any other drugs that you would like an information sheet along with the drug so you can have at the ready any side effects. Clinic or not they should not give out drugs/suppliments without the patient having the information that is critical. IF they dont give it to you, then insist they sit with you can read you the information.. i bet they wont have a problem giving you a copy! YOU can also go to a pharmacy even if you dont buy it there and ask the pharmacist. Tell them you go to a clinic but you need info. THEY WILL be happy to help you! and they are most up to date with all that info as well.

    Hugs
