Hi Kim,
I’m so glad you’re starting to feel better ~ I would give more weight to that than to the size of your thyroid, honestly.
The thyroid can swell because it’s overactive *and* because it’s underactive, so I wouldn’t necessarily presume that a return of your goiter means that you’re going backwards. If you’re really concerned, give your doctor’s office a call. I’ll bet they can put your worries to rest quickly.
And congratulations that the weight is coming off ~ since you gained while hyper, this should be a really good sign for you.
You’re still pretty early on in the process after RAI, so it may be better to wait at least until the six-week mark for a blood test, but if you’re overly concerned, go ahead and check now. Just don’t put too much weight on the figures going forward, because they’ll likely change rather rapidly just now.

NGDF Assistant Online FacilitatorWell its been 2weeks and 1 day (yeah!) since I had RAI treatment and I still feel pretty good (better than before RAI) and had my Atenolol doubled to control my heart palp/racing and it has thus far done just that. I actually SLEPT and even slept in this morning (oops forgot I had to work). First time in a very long time. But what concerns me, is my thyroid gland/goiter grew instead of shrinking. It had shrunk way down and now its like puffy again when I woke up and kind of noticeable. What is up with that? Does it ever go down or am I needing to call my endo and figure out whats next? The swelling was almost complete gone and now I feel I’m going backwards. Not sure if you all remember me posting that I’m one of the 10% who gained weight when hyper, well that is definitely not the case now. Started loosing and quite a bit already in the last week.
I would greatly apreciate any advice or experiences as I’m starting to worry (which isn’t good for us Graves’ patients anyways) about my RAI treatment not taking. I still do NOT regret my decision. It was my choice and I’m still happy with it.
