Hi everyone!
I got an e-mail recently, and it was most heartwarming. There are times that we get so ought up in the events of the moments that we lose sight of the long-term goals. With her permission, I am copying the e-mail in this post:

“Hello Dr. Patterson,
“…I wanted to let you know that I benefited sooo much from you and your support group when I was so sick with Graves’ Disease and the eye disease. I think I signed on by the name of Maia. I was diagnosed in 1998. Nancy, I hold you dear to my heart because you held my hand after the RAI. I heard a voice saying, “We’re going out for popcorn and soda now.” It was so real and it scared me tremendously. I needed to talk to someone, but my family and friends wouldn’t have fully understood, and may have thought I was crazy. You made us feel that you were accessible. So I emailed you. Within 1/2 hour you responded, telling me it was due to the radioactive particles surging throughout my brain. You said I was lucky because my voice was benign, and that a lot of people are told by their voice to commit suicide, and that some people actually do just that. I think you said you had a friend who succumbed in that way. You are one of the most important people in my life even though my contact with you was short.
I am doing well now. I had my levels checked about a month ago, and they’re good. They have been for several years now. The dosage of Atenolol has been cut in half recently. My blood pressure is getting better! My eyes are almost normal. Most people say they don’t even notice that they’re still protruded slightly.
I just wanted to thank you and God bless you. If there’s anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
To your health,
Maia”
Thanks to all of you that take the time to come back and let us know how you are doing.
