woohoo!!!! yay!!! sooooo happy to hear that someone has gotten treatment early and to happy hear the RAI has worked so well for you. i wonder if the RAI worked so well because you got diagnosed so early?
your news rocks and is certainly a pick me up for me and many others. Thanks for taking the time to come back and post ” title=”Smile” />
Take care and be well,
ericaI joined this group in January after being diagnosed with Graves Disease. I was looking for help and answers and got a lot of great support and answers from here. Right after the RAI I finally decided to just get off the Internet. There were too many horror stories all over the Interwebs and it was just making me a nervous wreck; however, I promised to post updates and just haven’t taken the time to do so. So here are some updates.
I had the RAI in January. After two weeks I started feeling sooo much better. By middle of March my endo said the RAI had worked and I had gone underactive. Other than feeling rundown and some poor circulation in my hands, I still can’t believe how much better I felt even when he said within two weeks in March (he tested me every two weeks starting at four weeks after the RAI) my thyroid had pretty much stopped working at all. Don’t get me wrong….I didn’t feel completely normal…but WOW….no heart racing…no muscle soreness…no shaking, sweating, etc. He immediately put my on the Synthroid and pretty much said…now we wait six weeks and retest and see what happens.
That six weeks seemed like an eternity. For those of you that commented on my posts five months ago – you may remember – I wanted another baby and all I read on the internet is how long it takes to get things ‘right’. My wonderful Endo told me – it’s so much easier with no thyroid…don’t worry…we will get it. IT WORKED. First time they tested me was last week and everything is PERFECT. I feel AWESOME. Completely normal. AND I’ve been given the go-ahead to get pregnant (after taking prenatals for a month, etc..). My endo and OB have spoken and they are well insync with one another and completely agree on next steps and course of action during a pregnancy.
So for those of you new to this…it IS possible to get it right. Maybe I just have an awesome network of doctors…maybe I really just got lucky….BUT I feel so great now and it’s only been six months since I was diagnosed. Thanks to everyone on this board who replied when I was feeling scared and hopeless. I haven’t read any of the newest posts yet (I wanted to make sure I got this out there before the one-year-old gets up from his nap ” title=”Smile” /> but for any of you going through this now…it is possible for it to all work out.
