Hello Everyone,
I am 42 years old and was diagnosed with Graves 9 years ago and had RAI 8 1/2 years ago. I’m new to this site but have read alot of posts the last couple weeks. I have some books but there’s still so much I didn’t know. When I was finally diagnosed which actually took years before someone tested for thyroid (I think I had it for at least 5yrs if not longer), I thought I was going crazy. I have 3 sisters who all have thyroid disease too. Their doctors never tested them either until I told them I was diagnosed with Graves. All of us have had a hard time finding an Endo who will actually listen to us. I’m on my sixth doctor now and so far he seems to want to listen to me. All the rest just didn’t want to bother or said I needed mental help. After the RAI I had a few problems but nothing too bad until my mother pasted away in 1999 and I guess the stress was too much for me. My TSH levels started to become erratic and I felt as though I was having both Hypo and Hyper syptoms. The last two years have been the worst, I am having severe memory loss, anxiety and depression, and extreme fatique.I also have back and knee problems and recently have had numbness in my right leg along with pain in the heels of my feet. My last Tsh was a 1.00 8 weeks ago and my doctor says my thyroid is fine. But I feel terrible. I wonder if having the disease for so long before being diagnosed has something to do with it. Should I be having other tests done? I am having bloodwork this week and my endo is checking my TSH and free T4. I usually have bloodwork every 6 to 8 weeks. If anyone has any kind of information I would deeply appreciate it. My sisters and I would also love to know of a good Endo in the Delaware/Maryland area. I do see a psychologist which does help alot and my husband has been great through out all of this. He says I was never like this before graves but to be honest it’s getting a little hard to remember life without this disease. Thanks for listening. Kathy -
