About 5 weeks ago I was put on 20 mg of Methimazol. Last week my doctor, based on my labs, reduced it to 15 for a week then 10 mg. It seems to be having a positive effect. My T3 went from 4 times the normal to almost normal, my TSH is lagging but that’s to be expected and in error the lab neglected to do my T4 so am not sure the results.

Anyway…several symptoms have minimised drastically, the muscle and joint weakness and pain, the heat intolerance (although finishing a summer of mostly 90 to 100 degrees helped some I imagine), I don’t have the same level of weakness and fatigue. But I can’t seem to do without the Atenalol. I know to wean off of it and not just drop it, but it seems as though even tho the other symptoms seem to be getting better this one is not.

Do some people stay on the beta blockers even when getting effective relief from Methimazol?

    Thanks.

Hello – Every patient is unique in this respect…we do have other members on this forum who have continued to take beta blockers even after treatment via surgery or RAI.

If this is something you would like to try and wean off of, *definitely* discuss with your doctor first to come up with an appropriate plan.

    Take care!
