Hi there, I wrote to your other post yesterday but just wanted to ask if you were still taking any pills after your RAI? For me, I took 3 x Carbimazole 2 days after RAI for a month, then down to 2 when endo said it seems to be working. I never got off those pills until I became hypo which is now. (9 weeks on) So I do think it will work if you go back to those 2 pills.

Hi everyone – hoping that you can help me sort this out. I am 4 weeks post RAI and was feeling better week 3 (less heart racing, less anxiety)..then this week I started feeling anxious again, had blood work done this week (at the 4 week mark) and my TSH is 0.01 Free T4 3.2 (Worse then it was before I had the RAI). Boy I am disappointed! Things are going in the wrong direction. The doctor is starting me on 10 mg methimazole twice/day. Can anyone tell me if this is "normal"? Does this mean the RAI did not destroy my thyroid? I am feeling really down tonight. Was hoping the blood work would show that my thyroid is dying and I am heading towards normalcy..thanks for listening.

Good morning, thanks for your response. I was not on any thyroid medication prior to my RAI on 2/25. I had started tapazole in January but the doctor took me off because my WBC dropped lower then normal. That is why I did the RAI.
Now since my bloodwork 4 weeks post RAI shows that I am still hyper my endo wants me back on tapazole..this was my question, have other people had this experience?

    Unfortunately, every case is different.

It took me over 12 weeks after RAI to get Hypo (and that was the second RAI – a year later since the first one did not work for me). Initially, after the 2nd RAI treatment I had similar experience with you. I was feeling very hyper and my labs confirmed I was still hyper. The Doc put me back on Tapazole and beta blockers.

The only indication in my case that I was finally HYPO was the drop in my blood pressure and a low pulse rate. Then the labs confirm it. After RAI get tested as often as you can. It can move fast (in my case within two weeks) from hyper to hypo.

    Best of luck!!

It’s definitely capricious ~ for the most part, it takes at least six weeks just to flush out the excess thyroid hormone that existed on the date of RAI. Hang in, don’t give up!
