Saw my ocular plastic opthamologist again today. He was very disappoint in my lack of improvement–radiation therapy on eyes completed in December. He was suggesting muscle surgery to correct my double vision (constant since November ’99), but after today thinks it’s more important to relieve the congestion in my eyes with orbital decompression. Any advice? I’m sort of bummed about this. I knew it was coming, but it was easy to tell myself that it was months off, and I kept hoping for some miracle before it was actually necessary. I am so tired of not being able to see, not being able to drive, not being able to read, not having my eyes hurt (actually just one), not looking normal, having people stare at me, not feeling like a human being. In spite of these comments, I do continue to be hopeful, but just wish the entire process wasn’t taking so long. It’s tough. He also said this was the first of three different surgical procedures. The muscle surgery would follow at least 8 weeks after the decompression, and the cosmetic surgery about 5 to 6 months later. Major bummer! But I do have to say that I’ve never had the problems with getting referrals and getting into see doctors that some of you discuss. I’ve never had to wait for more than 2 weeks at most. How can some of you put up with being told “it will be 3 months?”
