Hello!
It probably figures that right when you get to a treatment decision the doctors bail on you.
I had my RAI a week and a half after my uptake & Scan (4 weeks ago!). I would have done it a week earlier, but was also delayed for the doctor’s vacation.
With the schedule you listed, you will probably be okay if you are currently feeling okay. I think the whole idea is to minimize the amount of time that you have too much hormone in your blood. The longer you are hyper, the more stress on your body.
I would try to schedule it for as soon as you return from your vacation. FYI – -about 1 week post RAI I went through a couple of days of feeling very icky. I had some bad insomnia for a few days, increased muscle weakness and a general feeling of ick. However, the really uncomfortable part only lasted 2 – 3 days and then things have been getting progressively better. I am now 4 weeks post RAI and feel better than I have in months.
You didn’t mention any medication. My doctor has me on Inderal while things settle. If your doctor does not have you on anything, I suggest that you discuss this with him/her. This drug has really helped me and I know that the bad part would have been quite bad if I wasn’t under the medication. My dose was recently doubled because I started with some hot! flashes and things are better. (I’m only 33 — a bit young for the other kind of hot flash – I hope anyway.)
Good luck and hope you’re on the road to recovery soon.
Jude
