Karen, I read the description when I first started ptu and I even got the small print paper that comes with the pills from the mfg. After being on them since last august, and reading many notes to the BB, I’m pretty convinced that they are safe to take. (Ever read the same info on aspirin??)

My endo says they have been prescribing this for about 75 yrs with few problems (Some people just don’t tolerate it well, but that will be the case with everything, including aspirin) I started out with 6 pills a day trying to get my tsh above 0, and finally got up to 12 pills a day. (Each pill is 50mg) I finally turned hypo abou 3 mos into my therapy and now have scaled back to 3 pills a day.

I have seen a number of postings about potential natural therapies but have seen nothing that anyone has offered that can work anywhere as well as either put or the tapazole. (I’m not sure why some endos prescribe one vs another, mine seems to prefer ptu)
Hope this info helps you. By the way when I was taking the 12 pills, I know when I had switched over from hyper to hypo; I could hardly drag out of bed. Also, it seems the minute I started the ATD’s, I started to put on weight. so watch out!!! JeanVA
