Hi all,
I have not been on here for a while but I wanted to just see if anyone has dealt with this lately. I have had Graves (diagnosed) for about 3 and a half years. I have been in remission and off of all antithyroid medication for a year with normal labs through March but my last 2 labs have been a bit wacky!
March labs
Tsh 0.760 (normal) ref. range 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL
T4,Free(Direct) 1.32 (normal) ref. range 0.82-1.77 ng/dL
Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum 2.9 (normal) Ref. range 2.0-4.4 pg/mLJune labs
TSH at 7.770 (high) ref. range of 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL
T4 at 0.97 (normal) with a ref. range 0.82-1.77 ng/dLAugust labs
TSH at 2.840 (normal) ref. range 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL
T4 at 1.03 (normal) ref. range 0.82-1.77 ng/dL
TPO at 679 (high) ref. range 0-34 IU/mL
Thyroglobulin Antibody at 80.7 (high) ref. range 0.0-0.9 IU/mLSo my Endo called me and said I had Hashimotos as well and that he was not going to put me on anything and I need to come back in Oct. with new labs. Should I be worried about these antibody numbers? They seem crazy high but I have never dealt with Hypo numbers before. My only symptom is that I cannot lose weight and that I have put on about 20 pounds since Oct of last year and it is super frustrating. I guess I am just looking to see if other people have had numbers like these. It is a bit strange to me since I have only dealt with the Hyper numbers in the past.
Thanks,
Nikki!Hi Nikki-
I can relate to your struggle. Although I have never been medicated for Graves yet (Diagnosed 6/2016)… my labs were indicative of Graves last summer and I was sweating all the time (abnormal for me.. I am always cold) and edgy and anxious. When I went through a major depression this winter, my Dr. finally starting looking into my labs. My TSH was <.001 and my T4 was 1.97. The radio iodine uptake confirmed Graves as well as my antibodies. I saw an endo who stated my antibodies were more consistent w/ Hashimotos. I feel like I am suffering from Hypo as I have gained more than 20 lbs in 6 mos., extreme fatigue, always cold and hair loss. She did another lab test that showed my T4 is normal (0.81) and TSH is normal as well 0.46. So I will remain unmedicated and feeling horrible!!!! My TPO is 288 and Thyroglubulin antibody is 104 (ref. range 0-40). So I feel the same as you!! This is such a struggle! If you receive any further insight, please share! Thanks.@NikkiK – I had labs similar to your June ones last year, but was very symptomatic, and my doctor started me on 25 mcg/day of replacement hormone. She made one additional tweak (increasing the dose to 50/day on Sundays), and my labs have been stable since. I have slightly elevated antibodies for both Graves’ and Hashi’s.
With your August labs, though, I’m not surprised that your doctor wants to wait and retest. You don’t want to start on replacement hormone and flip hypER again!
Interestingly, researchers are beginning to question whether antibody levels in Hashi’s contribute to symptoms. The challenge, though, is that there isn’t a treatment that specifically targets the antibodies.
@SHERISWEENEY – Hopefully, you have a hard copy of your labs that show the “normal” range for T4. I personally find that I have hypo symptoms when my T4 is down at the bottom end of the “normal” range. Hopefully, you have another set of labs scheduled in the near future, as you saw a fairly significant shift in your TSH and your T4 between the last two sets of labs. If you are actually heading hypO, you want to catch that sooner rather than later! -
