My trip through Graves was restively quick. I think it’s hit almost 4 years since. I found out, spent 2 weeks on metimazole and then had to quickly do RAI.
Which must have been the quickest thyroid decent on the planet because a week or two later my thyroid levels were already low. haha.
I’ve been doing pretty good in this time. Gain weight after RAI, and then lost some and have pretty much stayed at the same weight. I take Synthroid which thankfully works great.

But my biggest problem is appetite. I don’t have anything anymore.
Hunger is a thing I wished still existed, every few months it shows up and vanishes just as fast. I don’t even think about food. Even eating it’s self is pretty hard on most days, just trying to get through a meal. My mother has Hashimotos and she always complained about this I thought she was kidding, but no it’s completely real.

My levels all look good, so there’s not much my doctors really care about.
Is this typical? Or does this happen to others who do RAI? Anything I can do about it? Thanks!

Hello – Hopefully, others who have had RAI will chime in here, but definitely report this symptom to your doctor to rule out any other possible causes. Interestingly, the National Institutes of Health lists hypothyroidism as a possible cause of reduced appetite – so it might be worth getting your levels checked if it’s been a while.
