Would you please enlighten me as to why I have a goiter again 30 years after RAI? I am 58 years of age. I have been on 125 Synthroid ever since. I thought my thyroid was dead. I am now having emotional rages and can’t seem to turn the emotional roller coaster off. What is going on? Lab testing of free T3 and free T4 indicate eveything is normal. HELP!

Hello and welcome – if the thyroid tissue was not completely destroyed from RAI, it is possible that the thyroid tissue can regenerate many years later.

TSH is often an “early warning” of thyroid issues, and it will often go out of range before T3/T4, so definitely keep an eye on that as well. If you do go hyperthyroid again, you would have the option to do another RAI or to select one of the other treatment options – antithyroid medications or surgery.

With the goiter, you might consider visiting an ear, nose and throat specialist to get an expert opinion as to what is going on.

    Wishing you all the best!

Well it seems Kimberly that 30 years of Synthroid/levothyroxine is just too much. There was no goiter but I have inflammation. My new doctor took me off the SinCrap and put me onto natural porcine thyroid. In one month my life has improved but I have a long journey because of 30 years of monotherapy.

I really wish Kimberly that GDATF would be trying to keep us healthy and properly informed but with your financial support coming from big pharma, that would be a politically incorrect thing to do. You are dealing with the devil and keeping millions of people sick and mis-medicated. It is very sad, if not criminal, that our support groups are sabotaged by big pharma

The GDATF has received no funding from pharma in the 5 years that I have been here. However, we do currently have a grant application in to potentially fund a special patient newsletter. Our Board of Directors has been very involved in this and has stated that the only way we would accept the funding is if the pharma company has NO editorial control over the content.
