I was diagnosed with Graves back in March. I have been having a very had time with the emotional aspects of Graves. I’m up and down and don’t know if I will be happy, sad, or mad from one minute to the next. My muscles are very sore all the time and I have had a hard time finding the motivation to do anything. Are others dealing with this as well? And if so what do you all do to deal with it? I would love some help knowing what others with this disease do to make it through this time. I’m on meds and have undergone the radioactive iodine treatment. No one in my life seems to understand what a struggle this is and seem to think that since it’s not something they have heard of that it isn’t serious. Thank you all for your time. -Kyle

Hello – Definitely check out the links that Ellen posted on this thread, especially the video on the Emotional Aspects of Graves’.

In addition to emotional swings, difficulty concentrating is also a classic symptom of thyroid dysfunction. You should start to see some relief as levels stabilize.

In terms of the muscle aches, I would definitely report that to your doctor. That can happen with hypo or it can be a side effect of antithyroid medications. (I can’t recall if you are on replacement hormone or if you are still on antithyroid meds while waiting for the RAI to work).

Hope that you can find some relief soon.
