    Hi Everyone,

Quick recap: diagnosed with Graves in 2013, had RAI in July that year, started Levo in August switched to Synthroid in December. Labs have been normal since the beginning of this year. I was back to my old self. A little heavier, but so what.

Then about 4 months ago I got Shingles, around one side of my mouth. No big deal, it was very mild, no pain. Now that’s gone and I’m good, right?

Not so much! I developed recurring lower back pain, thought it was a kidney infection. X-Rays show that I have Degenerative Disc and Joint Disease with spurring. One disc is diminishing and two have collapsed leaving little bone spurs.
I’m trying out 800 MG of Ibuprofen, I could take it up to 3 times a day, but I’m using only one dose. The doctor suggested Tramadol for the Lumbago but it’s another medicine that makes you drowsy, so I’ll wait and see how far the Ibuprofen will take me.

But I am back on the blood pressure medicine, it seems pain increases the pressure, and I’m taking the Ambien again for sleep.

So, what the heck could come next? I know this is nothing compared to what some of you are going through. It just pisses me off. You conquer one thing and then there’s something else right behind it.

    Hugs.

Hi Barbra, yeah isnt life grand!im going trough a bad spell right now too.i hope youre feeling better soon.if you are having pain, you should take the medicine as prescribed by the dr.my husband was in pain management for a little while, and they explained to us.if you wait until the pain becomes too much for you and then take the meds, the meds will be only about 60% effective.and if you are taking ibuproven, its probably for inflammmation too.ask your md,im only a regular person.i dont like taking meds either, but we have learnt the hard way on how to take pain meds.im curious, why did you switch from Levo to Synthroid?i get those days too, when you just cant seem to see the end of all this medical stuff, its pretty frustrating.people sometimes think im lazy when i have a bad day, because they cant see my disease.im waiting for the day when they start doing whole body transplants.ill be first in line.lol connypie

    Hey Connypie,

You’re right! I noticed the other day that if I wait too long to take the Ibuprofen the pain really sets in. I also got a heck of a headache, how that is possible with the 800 mg of medicine in my body is beyond me. So, now I take it in the morning, about 10:00 and I seem to be ok all day. Standing and walking are not much of a problem so far, but sitting a while is no good. That really sucks because I like to sit and read.

The doctor switched me from Levo to Synthroid because the filler in levo did not agree with me and moving the dose up or down had very little effect. We even tried adding Cytomel, which helped with the T3 but did nothing for the TSH that stayed sky-hi. Now, as far as the Graves is concerned, I seem to be fine with levels in the normal range and doctor’s appointments 6 months apart. Of course I’m seeing an eye specialist twice a year just to make sure my eyes are ok.

If it weren’t for the other crap popping up I’d be dancing in the street, even with the extra 30 pounds I can’t seem to get rid of.

I hope that you’ll feel better soon and get not only the Graves stuff normalized but everything else straightened out as well.
As for the whole body transplant – I’ve been in that line for the last 2 years.

    Hugs.
    Barbra.
