So lately I’ve been on the lower end of the TSH and hyperthyroid symptomatic. Which I wouldn’t mind so much if it weren’t for headaches and GI issues that accompany it that I’ve gotten familiar with.

My endo said I should skip one day a week of the medication to help instead of getting a whole new script for a different dosing of medication.

Does anyone else do this with their medication schedules? I trust the advice but the only thing I’m afraid of is on the day I skip, how this might make me feel. Since my diagnosis of thyroid issues I have been like clockwork with my meds because I’m actually afraid of what would happen if I skip a dose. I’d do anything to have as little symptoms as possible.

It is hard enough to make sure i take my meds consistently every day that if i had a day a week that i didn’t, it would trip me up some for sure.

No, i don’t agree with your doc and think you should go with your gut feeling on this, i think it is pretty clear that you do not feel completely comfortable with your docs recommendation, and change your dose to where you think it should be.

    best wishes!

Hello – I would really suggest that you explain your concerns to your doctor. Tell him/her that you would rather deal with two different prescriptions of alternating dosages than skipping a day. (Of course, you would need a good system to manage the alternate doses – I’ve used one of those pill boxes that has a compartment for each day of the week).

For someone who is on T4-only therapy, I don’t think this would be a huge deal, as T4 has a fairly long “shelf life”. However, with T3, you are getting a very powerful hormone that does not stay in the body for a long time. Obviously, I’m a fellow patient, not a doc – but it seems to me that your body would likely feel the day of missing T3.

    Take care!
