Hi All – Happy Belated Labor Day.
Today is 7 weeks post op (6 weeks on Levothyroxine) and I’m basically feeling good and functioning for the most part. I have enough energy to get through a day and night and then am able to fall asleep easily so I’m blessed and grateful for that.

However, I just noticed a pattern this 3 day weekend and wonder if it’s typical: Saturday I went out and was active for about 8 hours, felt fine, no issues. The next day, I was WIPED out and spent most of the day crawling for the couch. Monday I was active for another 8 hours (family picnic) and today I am dragging SO badly.

Is this a post-surgery thing or an absence of thyroid pattern that I need to get used to? Or am I just getting old? (Horrors!) I just wonder if from now on I need to plan my life around a day of recovery after a day of activity or if this, too, shall pass. I’m home for lunch and seriously thinking of not going back because I don’t have the energy.

Am I being impatient (as usual)?

Hello – Hopefully, our surgery “crew” will respond with their experiences…but I actually have occasional crashes 6 years in to treatment with anti-thyroid drugs. Hard for me to say if it’s thyroid-related, age, or the scorching hot summers in AZ!

Hi Sue, its funny you should say that, I had RAI on 12/14/12 and in April went hypo and have been on Synthroid since, currently on 100 mg. The same thing happens to me, if I am out all day doing something, I am wiped out the next day, takes me a few days to bounce back. Whats up with that? I try to pace myself, but cannot always do that. It is irritating, I am 57, and I am sure some of it is age, but everyone use to call me the energizer bunny (pre Graves) I would go from 5:00 AM until 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. I use to come home from work on Fridays, after working all week, and clean my house. The thought of that NOW practically gives me an anxiety attack!!!

Right there with you on the age and the Energizer Bunny….. several people really do call me that, or at least they DID 2 months ago.

I am hoping this is temporary and that we will get our endurance back….it’s not always possible to plan a “down day” after an activity day.
