Is there a list somewhere of common acronyms used when discussing Graves and its treatment? I am new to all of the sites and am slowly figuring them out, but a list would be wonderful!!!

    Thanks!

Hi! Reasonable question, that is for sure.
    Here’s a good start.

    TT- total thyroidectomy
    MMI- methimazole
    RAI radioactive iodine
    ATD antithyroid drug

That is all I can think of right now!!!

Hope this is a good beginning! THis website is the best. ANd the most accurate and reliable. YOu will meet a lot of new friends here.

Thanks, all, for contributing! A few more:

T3 and T4 – Actual levels of thyroid hormone circulating in your body. T3 is the more powerful and active hormone of the two. Some tests will measure the amount of T3 or T4 that are not bound up by proteins, and therefore available for the body to use. These are referred to as “Free T3” and “Free T4” (FT3 and FT4).

TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone; a substance produced by the pituitary gland that either directs the thyroid gland to produce more hormone or tells the body to put the brakes on thyroid hormone production. TSH is *not* a good benchmark for making dosing decisions for Graves’ patients, as it can remain suppressed for quite some time. Instead, it’s more important to look at the Free T4 and T3.
