I was diagnosed through fertility testing with asymptomatic Graves on May 13.

I’ve been on PTU, 100 mg twice a day for 15 days now and all of a sudden yesterday I felt like I had been hit by a train. I fell asleep at about 8pm and when I got out of bed this morning at 7 felt like I hadn’t slept at all. I’m ready to just start crying with frustration because I felt FINE before, just couldn’t get pregnant, and now I feel like I might never feel rested again. I’ve seen two different endos who both say that I only THOUGHT I felt fine before and I’d feel better soon on the drugs but I certainly felt better than this three weeks ago.

I don’t have a follow up visit to check my levels til the 17th and I’m supposed to be on vacation starting tomorrow til then but I just want to curl into a ball and cry….

Is this just a normal side affect that I’m supposed to live with?

Hello and welcome! Some patients can respond *very* quickly to anti-thyroid drugs like PTU, so I would suggest contacting your doctor’s office to get a new set of labs (TSH, Free T4, T3) ASAP. It could just be that your body is adjusting to the change in levels, but since your fatigue is so significant, further testing would help put your mind at ease.

Since you are heading out for vacation tomorrow, you might check with both your endo and your primary care doc just to make sure you get a quick response. Hopefully, one of them would be willing to give you a lab order today and then call you with the results.

Take care – I hope you can get some relief and enjoy your vacation!
