Hi Guys, sorry to all those who PM’d me, I haven’t had time or the strength to answer but I will Asap.
If Graves’ wasn’t enough now I have “female problems.” I am post menopausal and now after one and one half of a year, I am bleeding! I am very, very upset. I had tremors last night, had to take my tranquilizers and try to stay calm.
I have no gynecoloigst because she retired and today I was on the phone finding a complete stranger to see on Friday.
To all those ladies out there that are post menopausal, I know that bleeding after the the 12 months of no periods is abnormal so I am very upset and don’t know what to do.
I had this problem less than 2 years ago and had surgery. They thought I had possible uterine cancer so they did biopsies and everything then was negative but now I am worried again.
Does anyone know how long it takes a fibroid tumor to grow or a polyp? Because I just don’t understand what is happening here?
Sorry this is off topic, but it sort of relates because it is sending my anxiety through the roof and who needs that with Graves’ in the mix?
Sorry for the rant and rave but as AzGraves’Guy would say “that’s what we are here for.”

Hi Karen – Sending cyber {{{hugs}}} your way and hoping that there is a quick resolution to this issue. You sure didn’t need one more thing on your plate! I wish I could give you some more solid information on this issue, but here is a page from the Mayo Clinic that might be of interest:

Take care – and please keep us posted when you are able to learn more.
Hi Karen,
That would be disconcerting. You said that it had been over a year but is there any possibility that the Graves could have been supressing your cycles instead of menopause? I of course have no idea if that is the case for you but it occured to me as a possibility.
Take care and let us know how it goes.

Happened to me a long time ago [long story.] They did a simple vaginal ultrasound, shook their heads, and said if it happens again, call us. Never happened again. It might just be one of those things… certainly, that is what I will hope for.
*susan*p.s. Not trying to minimize your concerns, just letting you know that sometimes weird and unexpected bleeding is deemed ‘insignificant.’ Really, really hoping that your gets put in that category. One of my favorite medical terms is unremarkable.
to smtucker! Yes, I know what you mean! THe word “unremarkable” is greatly used and overused in the medical community.
to Karen-I’m glad you will see someone on Friday. I am guessing they will want to do a vaginal ultrasound. Sometimes they see small polyps that are “unremarkable” but occassionally, there will be one that is larger, and is leaking. They are just little “blurby things” that happen in different parts of our body sometimes. Also in the colon.
Of course, “blurby things” is another highly technical medical term NOT! I just made it us as I was typing.
Kimberly gave you a reference about polyps, and that is probably the first thing they will think of.
Like smtucker, I had sudden bleeding when I was in my late 50’s early 60’s. Had a vaginal polypectomy to remove the one that had grown, then burst, which causes the bleeding. Never happened again. Not sure if that is the procedure you had a couple years ago, do you know what you had? I think you will feel very reassured after you see the doc.I do hope all is insignificant, unremarkable, and easily remedied if needed.
Do write after your appointment, and before your appointment too!I hope you managed to get a good sleep last night!
Do write, this board is comforting and reassuring…cause we are all very special friends.

ShirleyWhat I had before was gushing blood (about 2 summers ago) and then a transvaginal ultrasound. I was very very upset because they said they saw a tumor inside the uterus.
They scheduled me for surgery and I was a complete wreck! You know I had bad anxiety. I never had children so upon exam before the surgery they said my cervix was completely shut down. They gave me abortion pills to take. The pain was unbearable! I was sooooooo cramped up, I was lying on my side. This opened the cervix and they were able to get into the uterus and found no tumor but a wall of polyps which the doctor removed and sent to pathology. I had to wait for results and they were benign.
Haven’t had any bleeding until now! Can it be I have grown more polyps? I HATE going through this again. I am beside myself!
Hi, Karen–
I thought I was menopausal after 14 months with no period, and then at the end of December I had a normal period. I was really hacked off, thought I was done with it all! I figured it was the Graves’ messing with my hormones. I haven’t had one since and my FSH levels always say “menopausal.” When I saw a new primary care doc she recommended an ultrasound, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. At least I’m getting a mammogram this week! She said once you’re menopausal, any bleeding is considered abnormal, but it also doesn’t mean anything is seriously wrong.
Hopefully your ultrasound will show nothing serious at all and this is just a cruel joke on the part of Mother Nature. Thinking positive thoughts for you!
Take care,
Amy@Amy, this is exactly what’s happening to me. I know Laurel said maybe the Graves’ could be supressing the periods? a good possibility. But my endo ran a hormone panel and my FSH was 147.2 so I should not be having periods but as you say, yours was always menopausal too. I don’t understand any of this!
I just hope I don’t have to have another operation. It is so complicated with us because we have to worry about being hyper and the heart acting up.
@vanillasky, I also have Graves and had RAI on December 12, 2012, I just turned hypo and will begin Synthroid today. I was at my family doctor yesterday for my regular pap test and she said said “oh you have a polyp”, you have to see a gyno and have it removed, they are usually non cancerous (1% are), but they like to remove them and the gyno can do it in the office (thank god for small favors). My point is that polyps can bleed, mine isn’t but they can so don’t worry until you see a doc. I too am 56 and post menopause with no gyno but I think I found one I like. Good Luck!!! Karen
Hi Karen! (wow, lots of Karens here)
If I have another polyp, I have to go to hospital for surgery. They had tried to remove them in the office and I was SCREAMING. I have a problem with the cervix being completely closed down. The doctor I had ( a male) at the time, screamed at me, “It’s because you NEVER had any children.) That idiot! Made me feel great, can you imagine? like this is my fault?
So it’s much more involed for me. They also tried to do uterine biopsy and that was the worst pain in the world. Left me screaming and crying and bleeding all over their table. I then went to the hospital for surgery and it was easy as pie. Some doctors are very, very INSENSITIVE.:mad:
Just got back from gynecologist. Have to go for tests now. she scheduled them the day I am supposed to leave for Cleveland for my Graves’. It’s always that way, everything falls on the same day.
So now I have to wait until May 2. I have had it! Could be anothe polyp she said or cancer of course. I’m so tired of this crap. Does it ever end? I suppose it does when we die.
Pretty down right now. Thanks for reading.
Karen
Hi Karen – I am SO sorry that you are dealing with this…*and* that you have to wait another two weeks to get some answers. Any chance that you can be the “squeaky wheel” and try to get an earlier appointment?
As for the old doc’s insensitive comment on you not having children, well, I’d say what I think, except that we try to keep the language here family friendly! Some folks just shouldn’t take jobs where they have to deal with the public at all…much less a job in medicine!
Please hang in there…and PM me if you need to!
lol! THANKS, Since then I hear he has been brought up on charges by a patient he abused. She contacted me and asked me if he “did” anything to me, which I can say he didn’t, but made me feel bad.
And I did PM you!
thanks for being my friend.
Karen
