    Hi everyone,

Well, I did it! I went to the University of Minnesota to start the process for the Radioactive Iodine Uptake. I took the pill. Sigggggh.

This is supposed to be a scan of the thyroid also. I hope it is a hot nodule and not Graves disease.

Does anyone know if you can get a second opinion if you are on Medicare?
I am on Medicare in my early 50s because the liver condition caused me not to work.

Good luck to you. I am hoping to do RAI next year for my Graves’.

I just enquired about Medicare and I was told “No,” because I am in my 50’s as well. The man told me I had to be 65.

But you can try and find out and do some research for yourself. PLEASE let us know how you are doing.

    Hi,

Let me clarify. I am on Medicare. I am on Social Security Disability. I have been on it since I was 50.

I went on Medicare.gov and it said you can get 2nd and 3rd opinions. So, I may go to the Mayo Clinic for a 2nd opinion after I get results of the RAIU test.

Hi Edy – Glad you found the info you needed!

All three treatment options have risks and benefits, so you definitely want to make an informed choice. If a second opinion would help you feel more at ease with your decision, it seems like it would be worth the trip.

Take care – and please keep us posted!
