I take 5mg of Methimazole in the morning and at bedtime. I’ve been feeling generally better the past week. Not as much change as the past week. My heart rate is normal, my palpitations are gone. Interestingly enough, the chronic back pain I have (due to degenerative disk disease) has improved since starting the Methimazole. I’ve been able to cut my pain meds by half! So that’s great!
Still having side effects from the Methimazole. Since starting it I have been needing more sleep, around and hour or two extra each night. Yesterday I was very tired after working half the day on a yard project the day before. After work, I fell asleep right away, then woke up at 5am and just dozed fitfully til 11:30am (I work evening shift, 3-11:30pm.) This morning I’m very groggy. I usually get up at 10:30am, but just couldn’t. I don’t know why I get hit by this fatigue about once a week. I’m in good shape, so working in the yard shouldn’t exhaust me. Now I have to go to work on a very busy day when I feel like crawling back to bed and sleeping a few hours.
I’ve noticed I’m more sensitive to cold (a co-worker turns the heat down) and when I was hyper it didn’t bother me. Not as sensitive to cold as when I was hypo, but I wouldn’t want it to get any worse, especially now that Seattle seems to have finally entered Fall today after a nice extended Indian summer. I hate being cold after so many years of being hypo. I haven’t turned the furnace on yet, but it’s been 64 every morning and that’s a bit too cold for me. Think tomorrow I’ll have to.
Not sure if I should have my labs checked early (they’re scheduled to be drawn in 2 weeks) or just wait. I feel like my hyper symptoms are gone, but I guess that doesn’t mean my labs are back to normal. Any suggestions?
Thanks again for everyone’s support and caring!
Amy
Forgot to say that I’ve gained about 4 lbs since the first week of September. Since I’m close to where I want to be anyway, I’m trying not to gain more than 5 more lbs after losing the 36lbs initially while hyper. I seem to go up and down, week to week, but hopefully it’s a slow, steady gain. Just want to fit into my jeans and slacks again without having to wear a belt to hold them up.
