Just started taking Meds. 2 weeks ago and there was a slight improvement but I feel like its plateaud . I am constantly tired and unfortunately for my husband quite moody sometimes aka gives me a high five instead of a hug and I start tearing up lol. I am also so hot my ankles and fingers are swollen, I can’t wear my wedding ring though I almost could as of a couple days ago. I also work full time as a preschool teacher. My basic question is if there is anyway you guys suggest to manage the symptoms I hate how I feel and how I can do maybe half of what I used to. Currently I am on 10 mg of methimazole twice a day.

Hello – I would suggest carefully documenting your symptoms and calling your doc’s office to see if you can get in more quickly to have a set of labs done. Some patients respond very quickly to Methimazole (I was one), so you want to make sure that you aren’t going hypO.

As for the mood issues, following is a link to a bulletin from the GDATF that explains the mental and emotional impact of Graves’. Also keep in mind that as patients, we need to tell the people around us what we need. Every patient is different in terms of how they want people to respond to them. Some might want a hug, others might want to be left alone, and still others might want something completely different.

Take care – and keep us posted!
