Just an update. It has been about 3 months since starting treatment (PTU) after a 6 year remission. I started out taking 200mg 3 times per day. After 4 weeks, we dropped to 150mg 2 times daily based on my lab results. That turned out to be a bit too much of a reduction so last month we changed to 200mg 2 times per day. Just saw my endo again yesterday and we will keep it at this dose for now. My endo uses the analogy the dialing in the correct dose is like steering an aircraft carrier. I have also been able to discontinue the Atenolol. Yea!

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good most of the time. Even hiked 4 miles on Mt. Rainer during a family camping trip. I hit the hammock afterwards as I’m still pretty unconditioned but it was a good tired.

Having done this before, I know it is important for new patients to see that we can be well again in spite of being very sick.

    Best wishes to all!

Hey, Laurel, that is so great!!! I sure am happy for you. I am having more work on my eyes with a surgery this Wednesday. Maybe after that, we may even meet some day!

Thanks Shirley and Kimberly. I do feel pretty lucky to live in Washington!

Shirley – Good luck on your proceedure. Perhaps we could meet for coffee some morning after you recouperate and the kids are back in school. It is always nice to meet other GD patients.

Today I even cleaned the garage…woohoo!

I’m so glad Laurel. It gives me hope for the future. I’ve been on Methimazole since June but I’m still feeling tired. My Dr. put me on 30mg and then lowered it to 10mg but I think I still need some tweaking. I will have labs next week. I’m hoping for the best. I’m so glad you are doing better. Please keep us posted.

    Smiles,
    Caro :)
