I’m not sure if anyone will know the answer here.

I am hypoT after RAI. My daughter was born 10 weeks ago and had neonatal hyerpthyroid due to my Graves. She was on methimazole for about 5 weeks. Her thyroid levels were stable at that point. They would usually then slowly decrease the medication to assure that the antibodies have left her system. Instead they discontinued the medication b/c her one liver enzyme was elevated. The SGPT was at 80 (normal 5-50).

She has been off the meds for 5 weeks and had her bloos tested today. The thyroid level has not come back yet, but the liver did. Now her SGPT went to 100 and the SGOT (which was normal at 45 before) went to 76. Normal here is below 65.

The endo was surprised and could not answer why this would be. They said the elevation is only slight and they will test again in a month.

Any idea why this would be higher since she has been off the meds?

Hi, I noticed that there was no response to your post. I am writing to tell you that it is great that your daughter is being carefully watched by docs. Congratulations to you for your lovely little girl.

Is the doc a pediatric endocrinologist? Or neonatal endo?
Soon your daughter will have another lab. You are right, this is a puzzle, and the endo is the best resource for you and her.

Since you are hyPO, that is not a great feeling, either. How are YOUR labs coming? Have you begun a thyroid supplement yet? How are you feeling?

I hope each of you are doing well. It is very important, as you probably know, for your baby daughter to be diagnosed and treated. A long time ago, there were kids who were compromised for life for this test was not done and the condition was not recognized as a relatively simple fix.
Again, I’m sure happy for you about your little girl. She must be smiling all over the place by now.
    Shirley
