I had my thyroidectomy on 12-28-11 after being diagnosed months prior. One my first morning home I had to go to er for low calcium levels in which my limbs seized up and I was in tetany. After five days in the hospital I came home taking medication and 6300 MHD a day of calcium.
Hello – Thanks for sharing your story! Hypoparathyroidism/low calcium levels tends to be one of the more common complications of thyroidectomy. The good news is that this is usually temporary, so hopefully, you will see some relief. Please keep us posted!
