I have asked this question before, but not much response. Has anyone had this surgery, or know anyone who has?
I sure would appreciate hearing the experience of others on this site. I don’t think it is as common as other TED surgeries.
It is for very badly retracted lower eyelids.

I can’t personally relate to this but I met someone once who had this done. She’s since been trying to correct what the surgery did to her eyes; she can’t close them… at all, and has to wear sunglasses everywhere as even artificial light is excruciating for her.
I know it’s negative and it’s only the case of one person I just happened to meet so don’t feel discouraged.
    Is this something you’re considering?

Unfortunately, yes. I have been to three different medical centers in the U.S., trying to avoid this surgery. I have severe TED, and my lower eyelids are extremely retracted. i explored it as much as I could, and found the rejection rate of artificial graft material unacceptable, and the outcome not so good.
I have had orbital decompression (resulted in not being able to completely close my upper eyelid, strabismus surgery, which was wonderful, and upper eyelid surgery, which helped decrease my exposure to my cornea a little bit.

I already have to wear sunglasses all the time, and artificial light is already excruciatingly for me. Tell the person, if you see her/him again, that I wish the best to her/him in some success in her light sensitivity. A big visor really helps.
