    What is PTU?

Hi Donna! I’m sorry to hear you’re having a down day. I have no experience with taking PTU, but it sounds like your body is either adjusting to the new dosage or that your meds still need to be correctly adjusted. I hope you’re able to see your endo soon.

As for cheering you up, today may be the day to do that something wonderful for yourself that you keep putting off – taking a walk, soaking in the tub, calling a dear friend, watching a “feel good” movie, reading a good book. I’m sure you get the picture.

    Sending hugs, Debby

    Hi all,

Feeling really down today. Last week I felt so bad the GP put me on
an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant for the horrible aches I
was having and the endo phoned in to take the PTU at 1 every other day.
Did a thyroid panel and the T4 is normal, T3 is low,
TSH is 0.46, and an iron level was way high. I can’t imagine
why the T3 is low when the T4 is normal. And I have no idea why they
    did an iron count.

Felt better on the meds so GP said to stop them on Friday. Last night
I couldn’t sleep because of the pain in the legs, so today I’m tired,
my legs hurt, and I’m feeling really depressed. My house is a mess,
the laundry needs finished, my eyes are so dry from all this cold
weather and I have absolutely no energy. Actually, I’m having a
‘pity party’ and I’m the only invitee. I think it’s a good thing my
hubby is working this weekend so he doesn’t have to put up with me! :)

Has anyone else done this sort of thing on the PTU? I’m trying to get
into the endo this week, but am not holding my breath. I’ll take any
    and all suggestions!

PTU is also known as Propylthiouracil, which is supposed to try and stop the thyroid from overproducing, as I am told. It’s a really bitter type of medicine. To me it tasted awful. But, I took it, lost some of my teeth along the way, went flying through the RAI treatment and here I stand.. A WARRIOR! (OR as some may say, Little Miss Why-Me?)
