I’ve been trying to research this subject (whether thyroid hormone replacement could contribute to osteoporosis) lately. Texts and studies have definitely shown that HYPERthyroidism contributes to lessening of bone marrow density in post-menopausal women, but the research abstracts I’ve found are fairly inconclusive about the role of hormone replacement within normal ranges. I have seen one study whose findings suggested that it might contribute, and several that concluded that it doesn’t. I don’t personally know how to evaluate these studies, so I’ve copied them out to give to my endo, to get her opinion when I see her next month. I’ll let you know what she says, if that’ll help.

Bobbi, thanks for responding. . .it sounds like what I’ve read also. I’d appreciate hearing what your endo says, and I’ll ask mine. . .Nancy, do any of the NGDF doctors have new information on this subject?
    Thanks
