Dee – so so happy for you. I was worried not hearing anything. I know you have been through a lot but the fact that you can see makes it all so worthwhile. You have the special Christmas you deserve. SAS
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers, cybercards and e-mails your thoughtfulness and caring really made a bright spot in my day!!The best news of all is that I still have my eyesight it is not perfect but 20/25 and the surgery was a success. We drove 10 hours out of state and it was well worth it. The docs did a craniotomy ( brain surgery) it was pretty scary and also a four wall decompression. I have to go back in 4 weeks for mediam rectus surgery. Has anyone else had this?? If so please e-mail me. I have bout 38 staple sutures along my hairline and I thought it was going to be a lot worse then it really was.
While I was there I also was able to give some blod for further eye research. If anyone would like details on this pleaee e-mail me and I can put you in touch with the docs who are doing the research. It basically is a simple blood draw and if you have the particular thyroid eye disease antibody. They will contact you endocrinologist for further blootests every six months or so. That is all there is to it that I know of right now.
Also while I was at the hospital I was in for five days, the docs asked me if I would mind speaking to the media. I said sure. Not knowing they meant an ABC affilaite for TV. I got to tell my story of graves eye disease ans also I put in a plug for online support groups, the NGDF hoping they would catch on and how more research is needed for us, This was broadcast on the 8th of December. They alo got me at my best in my pajamas and bathrobe. I just saw teh video of the interview today they cut alot out but the awareness of graves eye disease was put on tape and broadcast.
I know this is long but I wanted to keep everyone posted and thank everyone for the thoughtfulness.
I hope eeryone enjoys ther Holidays, Christmas and New Year!
Love and Happiness,
Denise (Dee) -
