Apparently it happens, but much less frequently than first time remissions. According to the info on the Graves Home Page, only about 10% or less of patients who have come out of remission and go back on ATDs can expect to experience remission again.

And, speaking of remission, I think there is a technical definition of it that isn’t being used on the board. According to an article I read by Dr. Cooper, remission was definied as being able to be off ATDs for at least a year, without going hyper again. So, just being able to stop ATDs temporarily does not mean we’re in remission. We might be, but we have to wait to be really sure. Obviously, Mary, you were definitely in remission.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

I took a break from posting as I dealt with the holidays but I’ve had fun catching up. I am taking a small amount of PTU and feel my hyper symptoms are calming down…or maybe it’s because I’ve been on Winter break…anyway I took PTU 6 years ago for about 6 months and went into remission for 6 years..here I go again. Has anyone ever gone into remission a second time?

    Thanks!

    Mary
