I was diagnosed 6/97, after being treated with PTU, then Tapazole, I had RAI in March 1997.
I had blood work done yesterday, today found out all is “normal”. My concern is that I have some slight swelling of my feet, ankles and hands. Last time the endo said it was due to my levels being low(which they were after previous blood work). He says the swelling should be gone now, and referred me to my MD, which I didn’t think showed too much bed side manor! I really believe this is Grave’s related. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I think it may be the weight gain that is affecting my feet etc.

The weight gain is another story! it is packing on and I do not need any extra weight, I actually need to lose several pounds. Somebody please help and share your stories!

Thank you all, wishing everyone the best.

I had my usual TSH, T3, &T4 lab tests today and my doctor also ordered two other tests (1) Antimicrosomal Antibodies and (2) Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI). Can anyone tell me what these two tests are suppose to detect? I get my results on Monday and I don’t want to wonder and worry about this until then. Thanks for any response.

    Greetings:

This would be a guess, so don’t take it for truth out of hand. From what I understand, Grave’s is caused by an overabundance of something called thyroid stimulating antibody (different than TSH, which is secreted by the pituitary). It may be that your TSI is to test for this antibody. Maybe not. Let us know when you find out!

I once found a website that explained AMA. Unfortunately, the printout I got is at home. What I think it said is that the test is often used for the diagnosis of Hashimoto’s disease. You might search on the web and see if you can find a site that gives info on what the test is for.
