We lost 3 cats in our family to hyperthyroidism in the last two years. None of them lived with me, two were my moms and one belonged to a niece. PTU was prescribed for all of them when they got sick (weight loss was a major symptom), but none of them made it. I have two cats and neither of them have a thyroid problem. The vet did say that hyperthyroidism is a common problem with cats.
